Who Needs Church?

1/18/2013

fellowshipping with other believers is important
I was grocery shopping the other day when a man who formerly attended my church caught my eye.

He came over, shook my hand and gave me a warm smile.

Since it had been a while since I’d seen him, I figured he must have moved on to a different church.

When I asked though, he said, “Oh no, I’ve just given up on organized religion.”

Hmmm, I wondered about that, and, before I could catch myself, the next words out of my mouth were, “Are you still walking with the Lord?”

To this, he replied, “Never better.”

As I thought about his words and unchurched Christians in general, I realized that something just didn’t sit well with me on the topic. ...

I can't remember who said it, but it is a great quote. The church -- with all its imperfections and flaws -- is still the best hope for our world.

Do we HAVE to go to church? Oh most definitely! It is so important to not neglect the assemblage of the believers. There can and should be that feeling of commaraderie and love. A place where the Christian feels at home. In some cases, it's unfortunate that some places of worship fall too far short of providing that love for multiple and sundry reasons.

On the other hand, there are some very specific reasons for not being able to attend church. The big one being work. With my job, sometimes, I am caught up in rehearsals and performances for a show. Many times just about every Sunday has been taken up with either. Once the show is over, it's hard to get back into the "rhythm" of going to church especially if I'm not established in one.

Then again, there is a time when God takes the Christian out of the church to be with Himself. During those times the worship can seem tuneless, the Scripture just a whole bunch of empty words and the warm relationships once enjoyed from the brothers and sisters will feel distant.

Commonly referred to as "The Dark Night Of The Soul", the soul is drawn away to be taught by God about the truth of what He's all about. Truth be told, the American church is full of a lot of doctrines and rituals which have very little to do with God. Our eyes have to be opened as our minds are renewed to His ways.

Again, I have to reiterate that we DO have to go to church for it can be a place of joy and love. We really can't GROW alone.

When I was working full-time, I made every excuse for not attending church on Sunday mornings- I needed the extra sleep; I felt like the only one without a husband at my side, etc.
I prayed on my own, but you know what???? I really didn't grow much in Christ. It wasn't until I became committed to go where He wanted me to go on Sundays, even without my unbelieving husband, that I really started to grow up in Christ. I attended a few different churches until I found the one where He wanted me to be.
I have grown so much since being apart of my church group. We are truly a family in Christ!
Satan has blinded many peoples eyes on this topic because he knows just how important it is to be with other believers.
I hope and pray, if you are reading this blog, you won't fall victim to his very deceptive lie in this area of your life.
