By Debra Torres The smell of bacon makes me think of my grandmother. And I told my daughter this while making lunch the other day. I explained that Grandma would often have it frying on the mornings we visited when I was a girl. Bacon and eggs, hot buttered toast, juice and sweet red grapes was her signature breakfast for our family. “I think they ought to put those kinds of smells in scented candles,” my daughter said. “They always have sweet smells like cinnamon bun or hot apple pie. How about a bacon candle or a friend chicken one to remind people of their grandmother’s kitchens?” Her idea made me smile. She just may be onto something, I thought. I remembered this story from a friend's sermon - here's the story from CHARLES G. FINNEY AN AUTOBIOGRAPHY (1908 version) "A circumstance occurred in this neighborhood, which I must not fail to notice. There was a cotton manufactory on the Oriskany creek, a little above Whitesboro’, a place now called New York Mills. It was owned by a Mr. W——, an unconverted man, but a gentleman of high standing and good morals. My brother-in-law, Mr. G—— A——, was at that time superintendent of the factory. I was invited to go and preach at that place, and went up one evening, and preached in the village schoolhouse, which was large, and was crowded with hearers. The word, I could see, took powerful effect among the people, especially among the young people who were at work in the factory. 12/2/2013 07:28:01 am
Wow! So amazing, Sue. Thanks for sharing. I had wanted to put something about Charles Finney in this post, but couldn't find what I wanted on the web. This is so amazing, and it helps complete the post. Praise Jesus!
I smell ok. Comments are closed.
